Top Six "Donts" to Avoid Getting Banned by Google

Link building India :- Is Your Website Banned by Google?

Lets take an hypothetical situation. Say You have a Website that ranks top on Google, brings lots of traffic, and boosts your business. You start to feel that the time, money, and effort you spent on optimizing your site bring in the expected results. You go to bed as a successful man with a successful Website. But the next day, you wake up to find out that your Website is nowhere to be found on Google!. Your site is not listed for any of the top keywords, "link:www.yoursitename.com" and "site:www.yoursitename.com" do not return any results. Google has banned your Website! The traffic to your site diminishes and your online business crumbles. Why did Google ban your Website? The following may be one of the reasons that attracted a ban by Google.
1.Duplicate Content

If you have the same content in multiple pages on your Website or external sites, Google punishes your site usually by lowering its rank or sometimes by banning it.
If you feel some Website is copying your content (you can find such pages by searching for key phrases for which your site gets listed), you can issue a warning to that site's webmaster or visit www.google.com/dmca.html and notify them that someone is infringing on your site's copyright.
2.Cloaking and Redirects

Cloaking is an unethical practice of creating different Web pages for search engines and visitors. That is, webmasters create meaningless web pages that are stuffed with highly searched keywords. When the visitors click the link, the site redirects them to a well-written meaningful page but search engine spiders see the meaningless page loaded with keywords and links, that has been designed to impress them. Most engines today repeatedly speak out against cloaking. Nevertheless, the practice continues to thrive, because the engines have traditionally done a poor job of finding and penalizing sites employing this technique. Just because search engines are less effective in detecting cloaking, it doesn't mean you will never be detected. Avoid cloaking and redirects to protect your site from a ban by search engines.
3. Hidden Texts and Hidden Links

Hidden texts and hidden links are textual content and hyper links that the readers cannot see, but will be seen by search engines. In other words, these are generally links or texts that have the same color as the background color of the Web page. This is a trick whereby webmasters stuff the Web page with invisible keywords and hyper links to improve the page rank. Search Engines, these days, are getting better at identifying hidden texts and links and consider them as Spam, eventually banning those sites which use this trick.
4. Keyword Spamming

Keyword Spamming is a practice of providing too many keywords in the META tags and body text. The general techniques today for keyword Spamming are repeating the same word(s) and adding many unrelated keywords in the Meta tags. If the spider detects it, well, you are asking for trouble.
5. Linking to Bad Neighborhoods

Reciprocal links are great for improving your rankings. However, be careful and avoid joining "link farm" services designed to artificially inflate your link popularity.

* Do not sell or buy links to artificially increase ranking.
* Do not link to any Web page that uses Spam techniques to increase ranking.
* Do not join link exchanges that are designed to improve ranking.
* Do not link to a site that has been banned by Google.

6. Machine-Generated Web Sites

There are sites that generate hundreds of Web pages that are basically the same page repeated hundreds of times, but with a few unique lines of text and unique title. Generally, search engines are very effective at spotting this; and in addition, all it takes for such a site being banned is a competitor or a site user reporting your site to the search engine.
7.Conclusion

Many search engines, including Google, consider the above-listed techniques illegal. If you are caught indulging in any one of them, you run the risk of attracting one of the following penalizations:

* The page is red-flagged for closer inspection by a human reviewer.
* The page's ranking is considerably reduced.
* The offending page is dropped from the engine.
* The entire site is banned from the engine.

Search Engine Optimization - An Introduction

Search Engine Optimization is probably the cheapest and most cost effective form of Internet marketing. In fact some studies indicate Search Engine Optimization as being the second most effective marketing strategy. The increasing popularity of Search Engines and the fact that good quality and cost effective traffic can be brought through them to websites has led to the development of a whole industry that revolves around how to make Web pages/Websites more search engine friendly or in other words better optimized. The result of this advent of Search Engine Optimization industry is the feeling among webmasters and novices in the industry that SEO is like rocket science and has to be handled by professionals only. Thankfully, the truth is that anyone can search engine optimize Websites. All it takes to optimize a Web site and get better ranking and traffic are 9 simple steps.
The 9 Simple Steps

1. Select Right Keywords

This is THE most important step and can easily be the reason for your ranking ahead or ranking below your watch sites (competition). Identify the words or phrases using which people search(might search) for your Web page on the Internet. If you sell dog food, your keywords must have something to do with "dog food". Do not use irrelevant keywords, even if they get you more traffic. If you are not sure of the keywords to be used, use any of the following tools to find good target phrases:

* Overture is a great tool for assessing popularity of target phrases.
* Googleis great for brainstorming target phrases.
* Word Tracker can help you assess popularity and compare how the competitors use the target phrase.

2. Analyze Competition

Determine who your competitors are. It is quite simple; search for the keyword on popular search engines. The sites that show up above your page are your competitors. Analyze those sites and find out how effectively they have used the targeted keywords. Remember that the more popular a target phrase is, the more competition there is likely to be. Sometimes, it makes sense to target a less popular phrase where you can corner the market rather than aiming for the highest popularity phrase.

Check out yours and your competitor's link popularity. In many engines, you can type: link:http://domain-name and get a link count for that particular site. The more the link count, the better.

3. Page Creation and Optimization

After identifying the keywords, create Web pages by targeting one word or phrase for each page. One common mistake most novice SEOs do is dump many keywords into a page. Not only does it make it difficult for you to rank high for each of those keywords, but also it makes the page less readable.

i) Make sure your keywords are present in the following places:

* Title tag
* META tags: Description tag and Keywords tag
* Body text: Heading tags, comment tags, alt tags and prominent places on the page content

ii) Conduct HTML validation for your Web pages. HTML validation helps you find out the errors in HTML code, which may prevent search engines from indexing your site.

iii)Then check and ensure that your pages are Spam-free. When your page elements, such as Title tag, META tag, and body text, are stuffed with repeated keywords, search engines may consider them Spam and ban your site.

4. Visual Review of Page

* Check whether your site has usable navigation.
* Ensure you have informative and readable content. Good content will ensure that your page appeals to human visitors as well as spiders.

A badly written page may get a good ranking on search engines, but visitors will move away from your site with the same speed they came in. Although Search engine spiders that grade your site will not look for visual appeal, directory editors and human visitors will!

5.Link Building

Get inbound links from quality sites. Quality sites are those that rank high on search engines and/or have a good Google PageRank. If the sites are in someway connected with the theme of your webpage that will help increase your rank better. DO NOT turn to link farms for link building this can get your site banned in search engines.

6. Submitting to Search Engines

If you have followed steps one to five you are ready to submit your webpages to the search engines. Chances are the search engines found your webpages through the links that you built but if they some how missed your webpages don't worry you can always let them know that your pages exist through Search Engine Submission.

You can refer this link for details on submitting to search engines. But if you did prefer the shortcut here are links to some popular search engines where you can submit your webpages.

MSN

Yahoo

7. Submitting to Directories

Search Engines consider Web Directories as expert documents. A presence in popular directories can help you get a better ranking on search engines. You can submit your site to popular directories, such as DMOZ, Yahoo!, World Wide Index, and Microsoft bCentral. For more information on Web Directories and guidelines for submission, refer to "Submitting to Directories".

8. Maintain

Search Engine Optimization is a continuous process. Popular Search Engines keep making changes to their algorithms i.e the way they rank webpages quite often. Thus it is imperative that you continually optimize your pages based on the current algorithms to achieve high ranks.

It's important to measure your rankings atleast monthly. Re-optimize any pages that drop in rank and then re-submit or wait for the search engine to revisit the page.

9. Tracking

Ultimately, it is not top rankings you are really after, but more traffic and sales. High traffic is not something that automatically follows top rankings. It is something you get by ranking high for "good keywords". Thus it is important that you track your website usage using a good log file analysis program and find out which keywords and which keywords bring in most visitors to your pages. Use this information to optimize your pages better for these terms and search engines.

Conclusion

At first glance, search engine optimization may look like magic; but actually all it takes is 9 simple steps. Search Engine Optimization is a simple continuous process that helps search engine do their job more efficiently. It does take a lot of time and patience but stay the course search engine optimization pays for itself in increased revenue. It is worth the time and trouble.

If you follow all the above-listed steps, you will definitely see an improvement in the search engine rankings for your keywords. The best part is that you do not have to spend any money on the expensive search engine optimizers!

Happy Search Engine Optimizing!

Seven Common Search Engine Optimization Mistakes

Link building India :- Starters in Search Engine Optimization, in their zest to increase their site's SERP ranking, commit some mistakes, which drastically affect their Website's position on search engines. The following is a list of 7 common mistakes, which you can use as a checklist while optimizing your Web pages.
Ignoring the Title Tag

This is one of the gravest, but most common, mistakes that may spell doom for your site's SERP ranking. Most of the search engines consider the Title tag very important. Search engines generally display the content that you give in the Title tag. Therefore, have most important keywords in the Title tag. DO NOT leave the Title tag empty or have irrelevant words such as "Home page", "Welcome to our site", etc. in the Title tag.
Irrelevant Keywords

Some Webmasters use irrelevant, but much sought after, keywords to drive traffic to their site. Getting traffic in such a way will not help your business in anyway. After all, you optimize your Website to boost your business. Say for example, you have a Website where you sell Desktop Computers. To increase the traffic, you use the keyword "Britney Spears" throughout your content, META tags, and Title tag. People who search for "Britney Spears" reach your page. But, when they find that your Website has nothing to do with "Britney Spears", they will move away from your site quickly. You don't gain anything from that traffic. In fact, had you optimized your site for genuine keywords, you would have brought in possible customers.
Spamming

Spamming is an unethical practice of using the same keywords repeatedly in Title tag, META tags, and Body text. Some shrewd Webmasters use this technique to artificially increase their site's ranking. However, search engines are shrewder enough to find out Spamming and they lower the ranks of those sites that use Spamming. Sometimes, search engines may ban your site for Spamming. Therefore, never spam your site with repeated keywords.
Invisible Text & Links

This is one of those old tricks used by Webmasters to cheat search engines. Webmasters stuff the Web page with keywords and links, which will be invisible to readers but will be visible to search engines. Nowadays, search engines have intelligence to find out this. If you use this trick, search engines may send your site into oblivion -- into perpetual ban!
Links to and from Bad Sites

It is a known fact that links from external sites would increase the rank of the recipient Website. However, links from low ranking sites or banned sites will not add much value to your site. Therefore, ensure you link to and get links from top ranking sites. Linking to link farms or banned sites can be harmful to your pages SERP ranking.
Invalid HTML

Most new Webmasters commit the mistake of not checking their Website's HTML code. When your Website has HTML errors, it will fare poorly on search engines, even if it has optimized content. When your site's HTML code has errors, it will be slow to load, appear incorrectly on different browsers, and rank low on search engines. Therefore, validate the HTML code before submitting your site to search engines and directories.
Having too much Graphics in your page

Search engines view Websites much as a text browser would Large amount of graphics won't help you get a better ranking. In addition, lots of graphics will make your pages slow to download, which will drive search engines and visitors away. For better ranking on search engines, have keyword-rich content instead of graphics.

Google Website Guidelines

Link building India :- Google Guidelines

Following are some of the important google guidelines, tips and tricks that can be employed while dealing with Google:

Google Recommended:
• A website should have crystal clear hierarchy and links and should preferably be easy to navigate.
• A site map is required to help the users go around yoursite and in case the site map has more than 100 links, then it is advisable to break it into several pages to avoid clutter.
• Come up with essential and precise keywords and make sure that your website features relevant and informative content.
• The Google crawler will not recognize text hidden in the images, so when describing important names, keywords or links; stick with plain text.
• The TITLE and ALT tags should be descriptive and accurate and the website should have no broken links or incorrect HTML.
Dynamic pages (the URL consisting of a ‘?’ character) should be kept to a minimum as not every search engine spider is able to crawl them.
• The robots.txt file on your web server should be current and should not block the Googlebot crawler. This file tells crawlers which directories can or cannot be
crawled.

Google NOT Recommended:
• When making a site, do not cheat your users, i.e. those people who will surf your website. Do not provide them with irrelevant content or present them with any
fraudulent schemes.
• Avoid tricks or link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking.
• Do not employ hidden texts or hidden links.
• Google frowns upon websites using cloaking technique. Hence, it is advisable to avoid that.
• Automated queries should not be sent to Google.
• Avoid stuffing pages with irrelevant words and content. Also don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with significantly duplicate content.
• Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines
or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with hardly any original content.

Introduction to Google

Link building India :- Google is “the” Internet search engine. Over 150 million searches are conducted daily. Between Google, Yahoo and Bing, these three account for about 90% of all searches made on the web.
As stated in the first paragraph, over 160 million searches are conducted every day with Google. Even if your business or product is currently listed on Google, do you think that a boost in ranking to the 1st or 2nd page would increase the number of
potential customers coming to your web site?

How Does Google Calculate Page Relevance?

Although I don’t know how the Google algorithm works exactly, no-one does, it’s a closely guarded secret, I do know that Google relies on 118 different calculations to workout the relevancy of any particular page for a search, the big one is link popularity...

Link Popularity
If you have downloaded the Google toolbar, then you will have seen the green bar that Google uses to rank every site you visit. This ranking is Google’s PageRank, and is indicated on a scale of 1 to 10. Generally, sites with a PageRank of 7-10 are considered excellent in terms of quality and popularity.
But how is this rank calculated? Quite simply actually. Google’s main criteria for the calculation of relevancy for a page is based on the number of web sites that link back to that particular site.
However, having 100,000 web sites linking back to your site will not necessarily mean that you will attain a PageRank of 10. Each site that links back to you must in itself contain quality content and have a high (7-10) PageRank for it to impact positively on the PageRank of your web site. Yes, sites with a poor PageRank can bring your sites PageRank down.

If Google’s PageRank technology sounds confusing, just try and remember that Google’s PageRank is the #1 criterion for calculating the relevancy of any web page in relation to the
specified search term.

Now, there are supposedly over 118 factors involved in exactly how Google calculates your Search Engine Rank Position (SERP), as mentioned above, Google places more emphasis on PageRank than other engines. We’ll also be looking at some of the other main factors in a later chapter.

Importance of Keywords in the Website

Link building India :- Keywords are what drives search engines. The idea is that a search engine wants to return a page in a search about something that the searcher is looking for. It’s doing this by looking at what was entered into the search box (the keywords) and then trying to match those keywords with pages in its database.

What is Key Phrase?
A Key Phrase is just a few keywords together. Researchers tell us that very few people just use one word to search any more and are getting more sophisticated.

Imagine you are a potential visitor to your site. What keywords or phrases will you type in to find it? Take a blank piece of paper. Now, on your piece of paper, write down as many words or
phrases as you can that you as a potential visitor would search for to find a site like yours in a search engine.

Here’s an example. For a site about baby names you might have:
• Baby names
• Popular baby names
• Most popular baby names

Notice how I didn’t use “baby”. People that are searching on that term might be looking for who knows. At this point we don’t want to be too general.

Try to write 20 to 30 keywords or phrases on your piece of paper. If you’re having trouble coming up with keywords, ask your partner, friends or family members which keywords they would use to find your site. At this point you should have a list of no less than 20 keywords or phrases at your disposal.

Right, now we need to do some research. We need to find out how many people are searching for our keywords and phrases. What we need now is a tool to tell us this information. The big gun here is something called Wordtracker. It costs just under $10 for a 3 day subscription, but the information it gives is worth it. If your site depends on traffic, then I recommend this tool.

Two other free tools work also, but just don’t give the detail.
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion

I use these almost on a daily basis. It allows you to find out which keywords people are using in their searches, which as I’m sure you will agree is very valuable information!
The digitalpoint tool actual includes data from Overture, so if you are only going to use one tool, use that one. Start at the top of your keyword list that you wrote earlier and
enter each one into the text box. As you can see, the term suggestion tool returns a list of keywords and how many times they were searched for during the last day. As you type each of
your keywords into the text box and see the number of searches, write that number down next to your keyword on the page.

As you are doing this, you’ll also come across key phrases that people are searching on that you didn’t think of. Include them too. You should now have a list of keywords with the number of
searches for that keyword from last month on your page. To get the 5 most popular keywords, simply take the 5 keywords with the highest number of searches. Write them down in order of most to least popular. You should now have your list of 5 popular
keywords, maybe something like this:

778231 baby name
68325 baby girl name
63222 baby boy name
38285 odd baby name
33583 top 100 baby name

Next we need to get an idea of the competition. Go to Google and enter in your first key phrase in quotes. Like this..
“baby name”

Looking at the right of the Google search, you’ll see what the
competition is:

Not bad, only 3.2 million sites we have to beat. Well, you didn’t think this would be easy did you?
Take your search terms and for the ones you have narrowed down to find out your competition and add that as a 3rd column. Make sure you remember to search in quotes, that looks for these word as a phase rather than just anywhere. These keywords are going to form the basis for all of your site optimization strategies.

10 Major Seo Factors that affects website rankings(SERPS)

Top Ten Most Important SEO Factors for website Ranking:

1. Title Tag
This is what appears in the blue bar at the top of your browser, it comes from a metatag called "title". As well as being used as a pure factor in SERP, it also boosts rank in other ways. Some
engines use “click-through” rates as a factor. Sites where the title closely matches the content tend to get better click-throughs (searchers see its not a spam site). When words in the title are also used as anchor text in a link to the page, you get more benefit.

2. Anchor Text of Links
The phrasing, terms, order and length of a link's anchor text is one of the largest factors taken into account by the major search engines for ranking. Specific anchor text links help a site to rank better for that particular term/phrase at the search engines. In other words, it’s the actual text that represents the link on a web page.

3. Keyword Use in Document Text
Your keywords must appear in the actual copy of the page. Supposedly search engines pay more attention to the first and last paragraphs. The way to go about this is have your keywords firmly
in your mind as you write your copy. I don’t know about you, but I find this really hard. I prefer a different approach. There is a simple trick here, write your quality content, then use a
keyword density tool to find the keyword density. THEN, take the top words and add them to the meta keywords tag for that page. This is somewhat backwards for some maybe, it optimizes a page for what you actually wrote, rather than trying to write a page optimized for certain words. I find I get much better correlation like this and can then tweak my text afterwards.
Sure, if you want to you can further optimize by having the keywords in header tags and bold etc. As a guide, these might contribute only a few percent to the SERP

4. Accessibility of Document
“Accessibility is anything on the page that impedes a search engine
spider’s ability to crawl a page. There can be a number of
culprits:”

• Avoid Splash Pages: Flash and heavily graphic introductions prohibit engines from crawling your site.
• Avoid Frames: Never use pages with frames. Frames are too complex for the crawlers and too cumbersome to index.
• Avoid Cookies: Never require cookies for Web site access! Search engine crawlers are unable to enter any cookierequired materials.
• Avoid JavaScript when Possible: Though JavaScript menus are very popular, they disable crawlers from accessing those links. Most, well-indexed Web sites incorporate textbased
links primarily because they are search engine friendly. If necessary, JavaScript should be referenced externally.
• Avoid Redirects: Search engines frown upon companies that use numerous Web sites to redirect to a single Website.
• Avoid Internal Dynamic URLs on the Home page: Though many sites incorporate internal dynamic links, they should not incorporate those links on the home page. Engine crawlers are currently ill-equipped to navigate dynamic links - which often pass numerous parameters using
excessive characters.
• Utilize Your Error Pages: Too often companies forget about error pages (such as 404 errors). Error pages should always re-direct "lost" users to valuable, text-based pages.
Placing text links to major site pages is an excellent practice. Visit www.cnet.com/error for an example of a well-utilized error page.

5. Links to Document from Site-Internal Pages
Even more important than the holy grail of external links is internal links. Who knew! Easily the most underrated criteria. But, it’s important to make sure you are making good use of anchor text. A well-linked to document is considered more important than an obscure page, even if the links are coming from the site itself.

6. Primary Subject Matter of Site
What your website is about is determined through analysis of the content. It’s critical that it correlates to keywords, anchor text, etc. One strange off shoot of this is perhaps it’s not worth spending much effort trying to build the page rank of the home page. This strange concept is explained in the idea of Search Engine Theme Pyramids. A related factor is having a good sitemap. Not only is it good spider food, you can also load it with lots of quality anchor text for
those internal links as well as relevancy text (that which appears near a link). Also important is the invisible Google sitemap which is an xml file for the Google spider only.

7. External Links to Linking Pages
These are the links from other sites to you. Note it’s much better to have specific pages linked rather than your homepage because of the idea of Search Engine Theme Pyramids. Don’t bother with link farms or anything you see advertised for a link. You are much better off finding links from sites that have similar topics as yourself.

8. Link Popularity of Site in Topical Community
The search engine is trying to figure out what your page is about, so it can decide if it’s relevant to a users search. Links from pages with similar topics add credence to your page. When trying to search out those links you can use something like WebFerret. Or if you just want a quick method, use the “related:” tag in Google, e.g. type “related:www.yahoo.com” in and it will search for sites related to the topic of Yahoo (whatever that is?). Then spend some time emailing webmasters and asking for links. There is software out there that will do this automatically for you.

9. Global Link Popularity of Site
This means that links from sites that are “important” (i.e. have a high SERP) are more valued than those from a lower SERP. A factor worth considering when searching out links, get the ones from sites with a high page rank first.

10. Keyword Spamming
Careful, this is a negative factor!! This means having a keyword density in text or tags so high that the engine decides you are stuffing. Your rank will go from #1 to #10000 in a heartbeat. Want to know the best part? No-one actually knows what percent density this is, and it’s probably different for different engines! Between you and me, I am not going above 10% on my pages.

Importance of Link Building

To increase visibility online is the core of every online business marketing strategy. Driving traffic to your website and getting noticed by search engines takes a lot of time and effort.

‘Links’ play a major role in determining your ranking position on the various search engines. Obtaining inbound links or back links in quantity and quality can influence your search engine rank immensely. One simple way to obtain back links is to submit your link to directories. Online directories exist for the sole purpose of providing links to web users to various sites categorized under relevant topics. “Directory submission” is a website optimization strategy that no website owner should ignore.

Directories catalog links for easy access to users. Much earlier, directories were the primary source for web users to find websites on various topics. Today search engines have taken over but directories have not lost their importance yet. You cannot obviously expect too much traffic from a directory submission. But you can expect an improvement in your search engine placement.

Here is how it works. When submitting to a directory, the major hindrance as well as the major benefit lies in the human editor. Your submission will be viewed by an actual person who determines how relevant and unique your website is. After passing his scrutiny and editing, your website will be accepted in the directory. This automatically establishes the credibility of your website; hence search engines will consider links submitted to directories.

Some directories even feed their databases to other directories and search engines. Search engines base a certain factor on directories in judging a website’s popularity and relevance. Depending on the quality of the directory and the number of back links your website has, search engines will be able to determine your relevance and qualify your website accordingly.

Note how important listing in a directory is. If your website is low on content but rich in images, flash content, etc. search engines may not be able to categorize your website when the search spider visits your site. By submitting to a directory under a particular category, you allow the search engine to categorize your site under a relevant topic.

There are general and specific directories available online. Specific directories target only those websites based on a particular subject or field. No matter what your business is, odds are that directories will be available that cater specifically to it. There are also regional directories available which may be highly useful if your online business targets a local audience.
